Pellissippi State baseball picked up two wins on Friday in a doubleheader against Northeast Mississippi Community College, combining dominant pitching in the first game with a dramatic walk-off finish in the second.
In Game 1, Pellissippi State earned an 11–1 victory behind a strong performance from starting pitcher Nathan Reed. Reed threw a complete six-inning game, allowing just three hits and one run while striking out six to secure the win.
Pellissippi State was kept scoreless for three innings, but the Panthers brought the bats to the fourth Brody Prairie tripled to drive in the first run, followed by RBI hits from Caden Black, Donovan Mitchell, and Caden Channell to take a 4–0 lead. Pellissippi State continued their offensive extravaganza in the sixth inning, scoring seven runs to put the game out of reach. The inning included a two-run home run from Foster Whisman and RBI hits from Channell and Hunter Reeb.
Offensively, Pellissippi State totaled 10 hits, with Channell leading the way with two hits and three RBIs, while Mitchell and Reeb also recorded two hits apiece. The Panthers stayed aggressive on the basepaths, stealing multiple bases to help build momentum throughout the game.
Game two was nothing like the first. Coach Hughes and the Panthers pulled out 12-11 walk-off win in the bottom of the ninth inning. Game tied at 11, MaKai Derry drew a walk with bases loaded to secure the comeback.
Donovan Mitchel had a huge game at the plate, going 4-for-6 with four RBIs to lead the team's offense. Northeast Mississippi took an early lead with three runs in the first and added another in the second, but Pellissippi responded in the fourth when Max Weyenberg drove in a run and Michel rocketed a three-run homer to take the lead.
Northeast Mississippi fought back in the fifth, scoring six runs on six hits, including a three-run home run by Haas, to regain control. The Panthers refused to go away, tying the game back up in the seventh on RBI singles from Simmons, Black, and Mitchell, along with a run scoring on a double play.
Pellissippi collected 12 hits and drew 12 walks. Derry and Peeler each drew four walks, helping create scoring opportunities throughout the game.
With the wins Pellissippi has secured a series win, and will be back in action tomorrow at 11pm @ Ridley Helton Park.
