Panthers Fall to Walter's State in TCCAA Tournament Second Round
The Pellissippi State Women’s Basketball team saw their TCCAA Conference Tournament run come to an end on March 8, falling to the #1 seed Walter’s State Senators 81-51 in round two of at Pickel Field House. Walters jumped out to an early lead and maintained control throughout the contest, building a 23-10 lead after the first quarter and extending it to 44-27 by the half.
The Panthers struggled to find consistent offense, shooting only 20 of 63 from the field (31.7%) and just 4 of 20 from beyond the arch (20%). Pellissippi also had a hard time limiting rebounds for the Senators as Walters State dominated the board with a 54-30 rebounding advantage.
Maiya Moore led the Panthers with 15 points, while Ellie Linx added 12 points and 5 rebounds. However, turnovers proved costly, as Pellissippi State committed 22 giveaways compared to Walters State’s 13.
Walters State was led by Nijah Gibbs, who recorded a double-double with 22 points and 15 rebounds.
After Pellissippi State narrowed the gap slightly in the third quarter, Walters State pulled away in the final period, outscoring the Panthers 22–3 to seal the victory. The loss brings Pellissippi State’s season to a close while Walters State advances further in the TCCAA Conference Tournament.
