Bio
Mariana Diaz Lopez enters her fourth year as the first head women's soccer coach in the history of Pellissippi State Community College. Since being hired to launch the program in 2023, she has focused on building more than a competitive team—creating a culture centered on accountability, player development, academic success, and providing opportunities for student-athletes to reach their full potential on and off the field.
A former NCAA Division II student-athlete, five-year captain, and assistant coach at Lincoln Memorial University, Diaz returned to Knoxville with a desire to invest in the community that helped shape both her personal and professional journey. She earned her Master of Business Administration while coaching at Lincoln Memorial and brought with her a passion for teaching the game, developing technical players, and building meaningful relationships that extend beyond the soccer field.
In just three seasons, Diaz has guided Pellissippi State through one of the fastest program builds in the region. The Panthers have recorded multiple winning seasons, earned consecutive postseason appearances, hosted the program's first home playoff match, and reached the program's first Region Final. Along the way, Pellissippi State has produced an NJCAA All-American, multiple All-Conference and All-Region selections, and numerous student-athletes who have continued their academic and athletic careers at NCAA and NAIA institutions. The program has also established a reputation for its competitive style of play, commitment to academic achievement, and emphasis on preparing student-athletes for success after Pellissippi State.
Diaz has been recognized with multiple Coach of the Year honors, achievements she credits to the dedication of her student-athletes, assistant coaches, athletic department, and the unwavering support of the college. She believes that the foundation of any successful program is built through daily commitment, servant leadership, and a shared pursuit of excellence.
In addition to her coaching responsibilities, Diaz serves as a Student Success Coach at Pellissippi State, helping students navigate academic planning, develop essential life skills, and build confidence throughout their college experience. She views her dual role as an extension of her coaching philosophy—that success is measured not only by wins and championships, but by the lasting impact made on the lives of student-athletes. Through leadership, mentorship, and genuine care for those she serves, Diaz continues to build a program that reflects the values of Pellissippi State while creating opportunities for the next generation of student-athletes.
